Translate adjectives into evidence
Ask what “innovative” or “locally rooted” means in observable terms. Relationships between a factory and harbour, equipment and workers, or a facility and its access routes can support specific messages. Pair each aerial claim with a ground-level piece of evidence. Do not imply performance, environmental benefit or community impact merely through attractive composition; those claims need separately verified support. Include location permissions, sensitive equipment and neighbouring properties in the brief. Agree on a ground-based alternative before the shoot so a delivery deadline does not become pressure to fly.
Design for aspect ratio and text
A corporate film, vertical social advert and exhibition screen require different framing. Centre-cropping can remove entrances or a subject’s direction of travel. Overlay the actual delivery frames before filming, including space obscured by captions, logos or interface controls. Plan separate compositions for a centred subject and for copy space. Specify frame rate, resolution, colour handling, subtitles, audio rights and revision scope alongside the creative brief. This is an editorial production workflow, not a platform specification. Share annotated thumbnails early so clients can see which formats the footage genuinely supports.
Separate approval from performance
Assign creative approval and flight-safety authority separately. Divide the shot list into essential evidence, useful atmosphere and optional experiments; capture the essentials first. Define success around the intended audience and action, not views alone. Increased performance does not establish that an aerial caused the improvement when distribution conditions differ. As an exercise, brief a fictional coastal hotel: use one shot to explain access to the sea and another to suggest a quiet atmosphere. Review whether editing exaggerates a temporary condition into a permanent promise, and whether the film remains accurate after explanatory copy is shortened.
YOUR NEXT STEP
Put it into practice.
- An attractive factory overview does not prove product performance.
- Cropping room and operational safety margins are different requirements.
